Meet Amy
Amy is a Mum, Wife, Nurse, Midwife and Lactation Consultant and founder of The Postnatal Midwife.
As a mummy of 3, she can all too well relate to the enormity of becoming a parent, whether it’s the first, second or third time over. Each experience of her children’s early months and breastfeeding experiences were very different, with lots of confusing advice and varying information given. The feeling of having no idea and not knowing who to ask for help; and that the system had let her down, is a big driver in her care today and the why behind The Postnatal Midwife.
Currently working for Dr Andrew Griffiths as his Clinic Midwife, and at The Bays Hospital Maternity ward in Mornington, Amy has 22 years of nursing experience, the last 14 exclusively in maternity – particularly in the postnatal ward. She’s attended further education and had the ability to develop skills and techniques to assist parents with breastfeeding, learn baby cues, understand baby sleep, and learn settling techniques. Amy is constantly striving to upskill in order to provide her clients with a well rounded, evidence-based and wholistic care with breastfeeding, baby, and infant sleep and parenting confidence.

What’s The Postnatal Midwife all about?

The Postnatal Midwife offers affordable and accessible assistance with breastfeeding no matter baby’s age and where you are in your journey. With extensive experience with many feeding difficulties such as a baby who won’t latch, damaged nipples, tongue tie, low milk supply, engorgement, too much milk, mastitis and blocked ducts, feeding challenges as your baby is developing and growing, re-instigating breastfeeding or weaning, and any other challenges you’re facing – I am here to help.
Amy, The Postnatal Midwife is a big believer in education- when we understand the ‘why’ it makes it so much easier to learn the ‘how’ – i.e., “why is my baby crying and how do I best help them; are they in pain, hungry, overtired?” In explaining and normalising newborn behaviour to parents, it makes the transition to parenting a little smoother with less stress and reduces potential negative experiences in the early days and weeks.
I strongly believe it takes a village to raise a child, and in today’s lifestyle, that village is not what it used to look like. With hospitals and Maternal Child Health Nurses understaffed and busier than ever, families living away from their immediate family and support system and some grandparents still working, it can be challenging to get the hands-on, face to face support that’s needed in the early weeks of your baby’s life.
Our goal is to support families that are after gentle, supportive, and non-judgmental care in the first six weeks to months of your baby’s birth. Whether that be with learning more about your newborn’s needs, developing breastfeeding skills, a good nap, a walk or someone to help around the house. Sometimes we need some professional evidence-based reassurance, a chat, and a chance to recuperate knowing our baby is in the best of hands. Enquire now via the Contact form for any of these services available now.
If you feel I could help in any way, please contact me- sometimes all we need is the smallest change to make your parenting journey something you look back on with the fondest of memories rather than with feelings of regret or stress.
